Future is digital according to PricewaterhouseCoopers

Research from PricewaterhouseCoopers shows that publishers will start benefitting from the rise of tablets, smarthpones and eReaders. PwC states that specifically magazines could be expecting a major increase of circulation, it appears that their revenue will increase by a 150 times.

In this research North American publishers of magazines and newspapers were studied. This first group has generated a revenue of $4 million in 2010, newspapers appear to have a big lead as their revenue was $150 million. Magazines will enjoy large gains however, in 2015 revenue will reach the height of $611 million. That same year newspapers will earn $331 million.

Due to the increasing popularity of digital reading the circulation of physical issues will decline further. Newspaper revenue will be decreasing from $10.2 billion in 2010 to $9.5 billion in 2015. In this timeframe the revenue of magazines will decrease from $9.2 billion to $8.8 billion. PricewaterhouseCoopers concludes that the revenue fall could be compensated by a decent digital strategy.
